Sri Dalada perahera

Sri Dalada Perahera is one of the most important festivals .... and is held in July and August in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

Raja of Nedungamuwa carries the casket in the procession

It is held during the month of Esala.....very beautiful festival ❤πŸ™

Many elephants are involved in this procession🐘🐘🐘🐘

This historical procession is held annually to pay homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, which is housed at the Temple of the Tooth or "Sri Dalada Maligawa" in Kandy

The Esala Dalada Perahera is believed to have begun when the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha was brought to Sri Lanka from India during the 4th century, eight hundred years after the passing away of Lord Buddha. πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

A unique symbol of Sri Lanka, the procession consists of many traditional local dances such as fire-dances, whip- dances, Kandyan dances and various other cultural dances, (low country ,sabaragamu) in addition to the elephants that are usually adorned with lavish garments

It is a cultural element that is universally accepted...🌍🌍🌍🌍

As Sri Lankans, we are very proud of this❤πŸ’œ️πŸ™
